Introduction

While getting acquainted with the paternal lineage of Mary Lynn Falgout Lorando's genealogy, we had the great pleasure to discover that one of her lineal families was the Chauvins of Montréal. Her Chauvin ancestors were part of the invincible and irresistible French Canadian "coureurs des bois", or fur traders. When these explorers/entrepeneurs crossed into America, they brought the light of the French culture to the majority of the territories and to most of the Amerindian peoples of this time.

We are anxious to tell you the exciting story of Mary Lynn's brave Chauvin ancestors who left Montréal, stopped for a time at Kaskaskia in the Country of the Illinois/Illiniwek Indians, and then continued their trip down to what is now south Louisiana, arriving there well before the arrival of the Acadians who had been deported from Canada by the British.

We wish to thank Mary Lynn for having united with the Lorandos and enhancing the genealogical heritage of the Lorandos of the United States.

Structure of this document

After this introduction page, in order to read the history of the Chauvins you will need to click on this link which brings you to the story of our Chauvins

When you arrive on the page of their history, you will see in the left column the original document in French; in the right column, you will see its translation in English.

As you read, you will notice numbers and/or characters that look like "exponents". These exponents are to references used by the author of the text, otherwise known as "footnotes". By clicking on the "exponents", you will be brought to another page so that you can see the reference to the historic fact that you have just read. We separated the progress of the history from its references because of the plentiful number of references. We also separated them because we know that only lovers/fanatics/enthusiasts of history will dare to put their noses into those pages!

Remerciements 2

Thanks 2

It is impossible not to thank my loyal partner Keith Lorando. Keith has provided me with an enormous load of patience and a bit of helpful, intelligent research. Absolutely nothing of what we have made/recently discovered in the field of the Laurendeau / Lorando history in the United States would have been completed without him.

Once again, to publish the history of the Chauvins I had to requisition Keith's talents to correct my too often mock-heroic translations. As he is used to doing, Keith put his neurons into action to help ensure the English version is as understandable and enjoyable as the original French version.

Thank you Keith, you are a "ti frére pour moé". "A little brother for me" in Québec's joual (slang).

To contact Keith, you can e-mail him at: inbizinrr@yahoo.com
